How To Regain Focus

Distraction! Distraction! Distraction!
Bago mag-pray at kausapin si Lord, basa muna ng balita.
Bago mag-umpisa sa trabaho, check muna sa social media.
Bago ayusin ang gawaing-bahay, nood muna ng teleserye.

Finding focus ang isa sa pinakamatinding challenges natin sa buhay.
Most of the time, wala na tayong naa-accomplish. At hindi ito dahil sa dami ng gawain, kundi dahil may iba tayong mas pinipiling gawin na hindi naman mahalaga.

But how can we zero-in on what we truly need to do? How do we find focus?

Allow me to share with you some helpful strategies:

ELIMINATE DISTRACTIONS.

What distracts you? Identify known distractions and eliminate them. If you need to get work done, disconnect from technology. Yes, you heard it right! Technology can be very helpful, but also equally distracting.

Turn off all notifications and reminders of e-mails, posts, tweets, etc. Take control of all your communication and social media accounts, only accessing these when you truly have the time.

Hindi ‘yung tipong kada tunog ng notification, titingnan agad natin. It’s not always good to get these kinds of notification. We are not strong enough to ignore these teasers. Bukod sa pagkasira ng schedule, hindi natin mamamalayan na wala pala tayong natapos.

COMPLETE TASKS ONE AT A TIME.

Isa-isa, huwag sabay-sabay. Kapag tinangka mong manghuli ng dalawang kuneho, asahan mo na wala kang mahuhuli.

Pero kung naka-concentrate ka lang muna sa isa, siguradong makakahuli ka. Kung meron kang gustong gawin, okay lang ‘yan – just make sure na hindi mo ito gagawin ng sabay-sabay. We should train ourselves to do things one at a time. Working on more than one thing at the same time will only waste valuable time.

When we switch from one task to another, it takes our brain some time to recalibrate and concentrate on the second task – which turns to precious time being lost. At kung minsan, kapag pinagsabay-sabay natin ang mga bagay-bagay, hindi ganoon kaganda ang magiging resulta.

Gaining focus will not just get things done, but will also make our lives better.
